Dear Festival Organizers,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Tetyana and I am writing to express my profound concern and dismay regarding the inclusion of the Russian film 'Russians at War' in the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival @TIFF NET (TIFF). Given the current geopolitical climate and Russia's ongoing illegal invasion of Ukraine, I believe that screening this film may inadvertently lend support to a regime that is widely criticized for its aggressive actions and human rights violations.

As you are undoubtedly aware, Russia's recent illegal invasion has had devastating and far-reaching consequences for the international community, but particularly in Ukraine. The invasion has resulted in countless civilian casualties, displacement of families, and widespread suffering. While the film industry often serves as a platform for diverse voices and artistic expression, it is crucial to consider the broader implications of showcasing works from a country involved in such conflicts.

Art and cinema are powerful tools for promoting dialogue and understanding, but they must be approached with a heightened sense of responsibility in times of international turmoil. By screening a film from Russia at a festival as esteemed as TIFF, there is a risk of appearing indifferent or even tacitly supportive of a government that is currently engaged in aggressive warfare. This could be perceived as a form of endorsement or normalization of actions that many of us find unacceptable.

l urge the @TIFF_NET organizers to reconsider the inclusion of 'Russians at War' in this year's festival lineup. Instead, I recommend focusing on works that promote Ukrainian stories, human rights, and solidarity with those affected by conflict.

The festival has long been celebrated for its commitment to diverse and meaningful storytelling, and this is an opportunity to reaffirm that commitment in the face of global challenges.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I hope you will give serious consideration to this perspective and act in a manner that aligns with the values of justice and compassion that @TIFF NET has always championed.
